Estimated Time of Completion (ETOC): Approximately 5–10 minutes, excluding document preparation and report processing.

Important: Turnitin access

Turnitin is available through designated Canvas assignments only. Separate Turnitin accounts, enrollment tokens, and direct website submissions are not supported for Capitol coursework.

Before You Begin

Sign in to Canvas, open your course, and have your assignment ready in the required format.

3. Select “Please review”

After submitting, confirm that Canvas displays a submission date and time. Locate Document processors and select

Please review to open the document-processing details.

The “Please review” message does not indicate plagiarism or academic misconduct.

Note: This action is not instantaneous and may require you to refresh your page.

5. Read the overall similarity and match groups

Review your Overall Similarity percentage and the Match Groups summary. These categories identify matching text and potential citation or quotation issues.

A similarity score reflects matching text. It does not establish plagiarism or determine the quality of your work.

6. Inspect individual matches

Select individual matches or source cards to examine the highlighted passages and corresponding sources.

Review quotations, paraphrases, citations, and references to identify areas that may need revision. If your assignment permits another attempt, you may revise and resubmit your document.

Troubleshooting

No similarity report is available: Confirm that your assignment was submitted successfully. Turnitin must be enabled for the specific Canvas assignment.

The report does not open: Check whether your browser blocked a pop-up or new tab, then try again.

You are unsure what your similarity score or matches mean: Review our article, Using Turnitin to Improve Your Writing & Interpret Similarity Scores, for guidance on understanding your report, reviewing matched sources, and improving your writing.
