The Accessibility and Accommodations section provides students with guidance on requesting support and understanding their rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990. Both public and private postsecondary institutions must ensure equal access to education for students with disabilities. Here’s what you need to know about requesting and utilizing accommodations:

Requesting Accommodations

  1. Submit an Accommodation Request
    • Fill out the Accommodations Request Form and submit it to deanofstudents@captechu.edu.
    • We’re committed to working with you to ensure your needs are met as quickly as possible.
  2. Need Assistance?
    • For help with the request form, email us at deanofstudents@captechu.edu.QR code for student accessibility request form

Important ADA and Accommodation Information

  • Documentation Requirements
    • K-12 accommodations, such as IEPs or 504 plans, are not recognized at the college level. Students must provide appropriate documentation to the Dean of Students to receive accommodations.
  • Self-Disclosure Rights
    • Students may choose to disclose or not disclose their disabilities, unlike in K-12 settings.
  • Accommodation Review Process
    • Once documentation is submitted, the Dean of Students will review it and hold an intake conference with the student to determine reasonable accommodations.
    • Both the student and faculty member(s) will receive a formal accommodation letter outlining the agreed-upon accommodations.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Student Responsibilities
    • Students are responsible for ensuring their accommodations are implemented and for addressing any concerns promptly.
  • Faculty Responsibilities
    • Faculty members are responsible for making accommodations readily available to the student, ensuring they do not cause discomfort or hinder academic success.
