Checklist For All Graduates

Overview

To ensure a smooth path to graduation, students must complete a series of essential steps. This checklist outlines each requirement to secure diploma and transcript release, as delays may occur if any obligations are unmet. Key tasks include applying for graduation within the recommended timeframe, meeting all course and credit requirements, fulfilling financial obligations, and completing exit processes specific to financial aid, residence life, and program surveys. Graduates who fail to complete these steps risk being ineligible for the graduation ceremony.

Graduation Requirements

Apply for Graduation:
It is recommended that you apply for graduation no later than one semester before your expected graduation date. Application deadlines: January 4th for spring and summer graduates; August 31st for fall graduates. It is strongly recommended that you apply for graduation once you meet the following criteria: 

    • Associate: Upon earning 45+ credits. – application is here. 
    • Bachelor: Upon earning 90+ credits. – application is here. 
    • Master: Upon earning 24+ credits. – application is here. 
    • Doctoral: Required prior to requesting to defend your dissertation. – Application is here. 

After you submit your graduation application, you must complete the following steps: 

  1. Complete All Degree Requirements: All students must successfully complete the required courses for their degree program, as outlined in the University Catalog from their year of entry.

Commencement Eligibility by Degree Level: 

    • Undergraduate and Master’s Students: 
      • December graduates may walk in the spring ceremony following their final term. 
      • Students finishing in summer may participate in the spring ceremony as degree candidates but must be enrolled in all remaining courses by April 15. 
    • Doctoral Students: 
      • Must complete all degree requirements to participate in commencement. 
      • Doctoral students graduating in August or December may walk the following spring.
  1. Pay the Graduation Fee: All graduating students must pay a one-time, non-refundable graduation fee before receiving a diploma:
      • Associate’s Degree: $75 
      • Bachelor’s Degree: $150 
      • Master’s Degree: $150
      • Doctoral Degree: $150
      • Double Bachelor’s Degree: $225

  2. Settle Financial Accounts: All balances must be paid in full. Contact the following offices to ensure you have no holds: 
  3. Order Your Regalia: Regalia is required for all ceremony participants and includes a cap, gown, hood, tassel, and honor cords (cords are distributed at check-in). 
      • Undergraduate & Master’s: Must purchase regalia. 
      • Doctoral: May purchase or rent regalia.
      • Order at least 8 weeks before commencement. All doctoral regalia sales are final.

         

  4. Complete the Financial Aid Exit Interview (Required for financial aid recipients only)
      • You will receive instructions via email from the Financial Aid Office.
  5. Complete Residence Life Requirements (For students who lived in campus housing)
      • Ensure your housing responsibilities are fulfilled prior to graduation.
  6. Submit the Graduating Student Survey: Select your division to complete the appropriate survey:

Failure to complete all graduation requirements will exclude you from participating in the commencement ceremony and delay the issuance of your diploma
