Instructions

Creating a Turnitin Assignment

  1. Navigate to the Course Assignments List
    • Log in to Canvas and select the course where you want to add the assignment.
    • Click Assignments from the course menu.
  2. Access Turnitin via the Assignment List
    • Click the vertical ellipsis menu icon (three dots) in the upper right corner.
    • Select Turnitin from the menu.
  3. Enter Assignment Details
    • Provide a Title, Instructions, and Max Grade.
    • Set the Start Date, Due Date, and Feedback Release Date.
    • If desired, check the box to Enable PeerMark.
    • Note: Instructions can be up to 1,000 characters. If you edit instructions in Canvas after creating the assignment, any attached files will not be displayed in Turnitin.
  4. Configure Assignment Settings
    • Click Optional Settings to customize submission settings.
    • For more details on available settings, refer to Turnitin’s Assignment Settings Guide.
  5. Submit and Publish the Assignment
    • Click the Submit button to complete assignment creation.
    • Publish the assignment to make it visible to students.
  6. Launching the Assignment
    • The assignment will be accessible from the Assignments tab within the course.

Preventing Early Grade Visibility

  • To prevent students from viewing their grades before the Feedback Release Date, hide the gradebook column:
    • Navigate to Grades in Canvas.
    • Adjust the Grade Posting Policy for the assignment to Manual.
    • After the Feedback Release Date, change the setting back to make grades visible to students.

Troubleshooting

  • Ensure you are logged into Canvas with instructor credentials.
  • Clear your browser cache and cookies.
  • Use a recommended browser (Chrome or Firefox).
  • Check Turnitin’s status at Turnitin Status.
  • Verify that the assignment is published and visible to students.
