Autodesk Revit: Installation and Access

Overview

Description: This article provides an overview of Autodesk Revit, its educational access for students, and how to download and install the software.

What is Autodesk Revit?

Autodesk Revit is a Building Information Modeling (BIM) software that enables architects, engineers, and construction professionals to create detailed 3D models of buildings and structures. It is part of the Autodesk Suite, which facilitates design and collaboration.

Downloading Autodesk Revit

Students can get free one-year educational access to Autodesk products. This access is renewable as long as you remain a student. The initial approval process may take up to seven days, so begin as early as possible. 

  1. Unlock Educational Access: 
  2. Download Autodesk Revit: 
    • Once access is secured, download Autodesk Revit from your Autodesk account dashboard. 
    • If additional Autodesk tools are required for your course, download them at this stage.

Mac Users: Revit does not have a native Macintosh version, but it can run using Bootcamp or a Virtual Machine (VM). See Using Revit on a Macintosh System for guidance. 

Troubleshooting

  • Verification Issues: If your student verification is delayed, check your email for additional steps from Autodesk.
  • Installation Problems: Ensure your system meets the minimum requirements before downloading.
  • Revit Not Launching: Try running the program as an administrator or reinstalling it with updated system drivers. 
  • Mac Compatibility Issues: Use Bootcamp or a VM if running Revit on a Mac.
