Resetting Your Microsoft 365 Password

Overview

Description: This guide provides step-by-step instructions for resetting your Microsoft 365 password in case you’ve forgotten it or need to update it for security reasons. 

Estimated Time of Completion (ETOC): 10 minutes. 

Instructions

  1. Navigate to the Password Reset Page
    • Open your preferred web browser (e.g., Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Firefox). 
    • Go to the Microsoft 365 password reset page: https://account.captechu.edu.
  2. Start the Password Reset Process
    • Click Reset Password
    • Enter the first part of your Capitol email address (e.g., jdoe) and click Next.
  3. Verify Your Identity
    • Answer your security questions or use your authenticator.
  4. Reset Your Password
    • Enter a new password that meets Microsoft’s security requirements: 
      • At least 8 characters long. 
      • Contains a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters. 
    • Confirm the new password by entering it again and click Next.
  5. Complete the Reset
    • You’ll receive a confirmation message that your password has been reset successfully. 
    • Click Sign In to log into your Microsoft 365 account with your new password. 
  6. Recovery questions not working:
    • The answers are case sensitive, make sure you capitalize everything correctly. 
  7. Not receiving authentication code:
    • Did you get a new phone or phone number? If so, you will need to call in.
      • (888) 522-7486 when prompted, select option 6 then option 2.
