How to find your IP address in Windows?

Overview

Description: This guide will show you how to find your IP address in Windows, which can be useful for troubleshooting network issues or configuring certain software. 

Estimated Time of Completion (ETOC): 2 minutes 

Instructions

  1. Click the “Start” button (Windows logo) in the bottom-left corner of your screen.
  2. Type “cmd” in the search bar and select “Command Prompt” from the results.
  3. In the Command Prompt window, type ipconfig and press Enter.
  4. Scroll through the results to find your “IPv4 Address” under your network connection (typically labeled as “Ethernet adapter” or “Wireless LAN adapter”).

Troubleshooting

  • I see multiple IP addresses: Look for the one labeled “IPv4 Address.” This is the one you will typically need. 
  • Command Prompt is not opening: Ensure you have administrator privileges or try running the Command Prompt as an administrator.
